Jun 10, 2008 · That is where the pptp client can connect to the pptp server by tcp then it sets up the ipgre tunnel part which fails (most likely due to nat or a firewall). On the client side just prior to this i assume it just hangs on verifing username / password. If thats the case then the ppp link won't come up because the ipgre tunnel setup has failed The PPTP VPN client will appear to connect, get to a "Verifying Username and Password" message and hang there. The "Verifying Username and Password" stage requires the GRE tunnel to be functional. I got through all steps, it even shows me the "Verifying Username and password" message but just after that it goes to other things that i have NO IDEA what they are! I had never seen them on XP! and i think the problem is with that!
