For this to work "auto-hide menu bar option must be checked", I would rather prefer an option where menu bar do not appear on mouse hover unless explicitly asked by performing keyboard shortcut.

I really like the auto-hide feature of the dock in Mac OS X. However, the animation for the dock to reappear is just a bit too slow for me. Since this is quite annoying, I disable the feature. On the new laptop, it disappears continually and is extremely irritating-- it makes work much slower since each time I want to view info that is always visible on my older laptop.

There is no such feature called ‘auto-hide’. When you enter full screen mode the menu bar disappears. That’s the way it was designed and there is no way to change it. If this bothers you then do not enter full screen mode. Simply drag your app’s window size to fill as much of the screen as possible. The menu bar will not disappear then. Hold ALT (option) and the Green "Maximize" button will have a plus sign over it "+" This will make the window resize to max without hiding the MenuBar above. You can also double click the top of the window bar and should automatically resize to max.
